Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (COGS): Preschool - Grade 5

This is a profound spiritual method of religious formation for young children from 3 years of age through Grade 5. COGS facilitates your child's basic need and capacity to enjoy the presence of God through presentations and works rooted in Sacred Scripture, Liturgy, and the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The Catechesis is based on the conviction that God and your child are in a relationship. We believe that the growth of this relationship is directed by the Spirit of God already within your child and that each child has a deep need to experience God's presence in their lives and a special capacity to enjoy that presence.

PLEASE NOTE: It is best for children to have had at least one year of COGS, Level I in order to register for Level II or Level III.

Traditional Religious Education (TRE):

Grade 1 - 5

We welcome all school-age children Grade 1 through Grade 5 to join us for scheduled sessions of Religious Education. Registration is required. This program recognizes the home as the first and primary experience of faith, giving parents tools to raise their children in the faith as well as leading children to an active faith-life and relationship with Christ. Students are connected to our community and faith through videos, YouTube, music, meditations, interactive games, and more.

Grade 1 to Grade 3 meet in individual grade levels, for a program called "GENESIS", as they begin their “Journey of Faith” in preparation for the reception of their sacraments of initiation.

PLEASE NOTE:

Kindergarteners must enroll in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.

Baptized & Unbaptized Children joining RE for the first time in Grades 3, 4, or 5 are considered "Off Track" and have to go for two years for their Sacramental Formation. They meet in individual grade levels, for a program called "GENESIS", as they “catch up” on their "Journey of Faith" in Preparation for the reception of their Sacraments of Initiation.

Grades 4 and 5 meet together for a program called "THE JOURNEY" which is a unique approach to Religious Education, designed to further engage those who have already received their sacraments of initiation, and are continuing their “Journey of Faith” as newly confirmed.

For more info about TRE at St. Andrew, email the Religious Education department (re@standrewchandler.com) before enrolling for the class.

Religious Education for Students with Special Needs (SPED)

This is a special program that many parishioners refer to when they talk about catechesis. The program is ‘christened’ SPECIAL NEEDS and it is designed to instruct children with special needs such as: Autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, medically-fragile, etc.

Options for learning are based on the needs of the individual child:

• a classroom setting with support for the child and the catechist;

• one-on-one instruction;

• OR, if possible, a small group setting if children with similar abilities have the same day and time for class

The program acts as a link to the typical needs RE as it provides class assistance with knowledge on how to understand, and journey with children in this category that are placed in the class setting with other students.

New to the Special Needs Program or been away for a year? After registration, you will be contacted by the coordinator for the program, to schedule an interview to determine the best placement for your child.

For more info about SPED at St. Andrew, email the Religious Education department (re@standrewchandler.com) before enrolling for the class.

Life Teen High School Ministry:

Grade 9 - 12

St. Andrew the Apostle's Life Teen Program is a Eucharist-centered Catholic program for high school teens grades 9-12. By sharing the teachings of our Church and through powerful encounters with Christ, we help the teens grow in the knowledge of our faith while transforming their hearts to help them passionately live out the gospel by serving and loving one another.  Through fellowship and open and honest discussion, we grow closer to one another and Christ knowing that we walk this journey together. Life Teen is a non-classroom model and encourages our teens to grow their relationship with Christ while preparing them to defend an authentic Catholic identity through their teen years. Every Sunday, we meet after Mass for a Life Night. These nights focus on either catechetical teachings, cultural issues teens face, or social gatherings. Teens in need of Sacraments must register for the Life teen program and then will recieve information regarding additional sessions necessary for Sacrament Preparation.

For more info about Life Teen at St. Andrew, email Youth Coordinator (khew@standrewchandler.com) before enrolling for the class.

PLEASE NOTE:
